Jeep Ireland chose the stunning surroundings of Slane Castle in County Meath to host the Irish media launch of the all-new Jeep Compass, giving journalists an early opportunity to experience the brand’s latest electrified SUV. Our drive began at the Voco Hotel at Goffs and took us along a scenic route to the historic Slane Castle estate, arriving through the famous Gothic entrance that has welcomed some of the biggest names in rock music over the decades. It provided a fitting backdrop for a vehicle that represents a significant step forward for Jeep as it continues its journey towards electrification.

During our brief first drive, the new Compass impressed with its smooth and refined electric powertrain. The transition between power delivery was seamless and the vehicle felt composed and comfortable on Irish roads. Inside, the Compass offers a noticeably more premium feel than before, with a modern cabin layout, generous levels of equipment, user friendly tech and everyday practicality. While our initial drive was relatively short, first impressions are certainly decent. The Compass feels spacious, well built and easy to live with, combining Jeep’s traditional SUV character with the efficiency and refinement expected of a modern electrified vehicle. We look forward to spending more time behind the wheel later this year when we will undertake a full seven-day test to properly evaluate how the new Compass performs in everyday Irish driving conditions.

So what powertrain options have we got? Well, customers can choose from a 145hp 48-volt e-Hybrid, a 195hp Plug-in Hybrid and a selection of fully electric models ranging from 213hp in front-wheel-drive form up to a range-topping 375hp all-wheel-drive version. Jeep says this broad line-up is designed to give customers genuine freedom of choice as they consider moving to electrified motoring! Charging capability is equally impressive, with the electric Compass supporting DC rapid charging at up to 160kW, allowing a 20 to 80 per cent charge in approximately 30 minutes. Launch models offer a driving range of up to 500 kilometres, while an extended-range version arriving later will increase that figure to up to 650 kilometres. Both hybrid and electric versions kick off from €42,995.

Inside, Jeep has completely redesigned the cabin with improved connectivity, enhanced comfort and increased practicality. Rear passengers benefit from an additional 20mm of legroom, while boot capacity has grown to 550 litres. The interior also features up to 34 litres of front storage and retains physical controls for key vehicle functions, making the system intuitive and easy to use. As previously mentioned, Technology has taken a major step forward too. Level 2 autonomous driving features are now standard, alongside Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control and Semi-Automated Lane Change Assist, helping to make long journeys more relaxing and safer.

Despite its increased focus on electrification, Jeep has not forgotten its off-road heritage. Even front-wheel-drive versions benefit from generous ground clearance, strong approach and departure angles and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system as standard, ensuring the Compass remains capable when the road ends. Available in six colours and with both hybrid and electric powertrains on offer, the all-new Compass represents one of the most important new models for Jeep in Ireland! Following our first taste of the vehicle at Slane Castle, it certainly appears to have the ingredients to compete strongly in one of Europe’s most competitive SUV segments. We’ll reserve full judgement until our extended test drive later this year, but the early signs are very encouraging.
