MG has used the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed to reveal two new electric concept cars, offering an early glimpse of the brand’s future design direction and technology strategy. Making their world debut, the MG GO! and MG Cyber Concept blend inspiration from MG’s sporting heritage with a fresh approach to electric vehicle design. The MG GO! previews a compact B-segment electric hatchback due to arrive in 2027. Designed at MG’s London Design Centre, it draws inspiration from classic models such as the MGB GT while adopting a modern retro-inspired design aimed at the mainstream EV market.
Carl Gotham, Design Director of Advanced Design at MG’s London studio, said the concept was created to capture the spirit of MG rather than simply recreate the past.
“With MG GO!, we wanted to create something compact and contemporary, but also warm, expressive and immediately likeable. It is about capturing the clarity, charm and emotional appeal that have always made MG distinctive and reinterpreting that in a way that feels relevant today.”
At the other end of the scale sits the MG Cyber Concept, a bold vision of a future D-segment performance SUV. Inspired in part by the record-breaking MG EX181 land speed car, it combines the practicality of an SUV with the styling and driving character traditionally associated with a sports car. The concept also demonstrates MG’s ambition to expand its performance credentials beyond conventional sports cars as it develops its future electric model range. Alongside the concept cars, MG displayed much of its current electrified line-up at Goodwood, including the MGS9 PHEV, MG4 EV Urban, MG HS Plug-in Hybrid, MG ZS Hybrid+, MG IM5 and the MG Cyberster. Visitors also saw the MGS9 PHEV, MGS6 EV and Cyberster tackle the famous Goodwood Hill Climb.
The Goodwood announcements followed MG’s recent Tech Day in London, where the company outlined its next phase of electrification and driver assistance technology. Among the key announcements was confirmation that MG’s next-generation Plug-in Hybrid+ system will arrive from 2027, making its debut in the MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+. The new powertrain combines dedicated hybrid petrol engines with Power Split and Motor Decoupling technology, allowing the vehicle to continuously optimise the balance between petrol and electric power depending on driving conditions. MG says the system will deliver improved efficiency, quieter operation and stronger performance, with 0 to 100km/h expected to take less than six seconds.
Future Plug-in Hybrid+ models will also feature MG’s new SolidCore Battery technology. Based on a semi-solid-state battery design, it is designed to provide more consistent performance, improved range stability and better efficiency across a wider range of temperatures and battery charge levels. The first vehicles to adopt the new technology are expected to be three new SUVs spanning the B, C and D segments. Together, the Goodwood concepts and MG’s latest technology roadmap underline the brand’s ambition to significantly expand its electric, Hybrid+ and Plug-in Hybrid range across Europe. They also point to a future where distinctive design, improved performance and more accessible electrified driving become central to the next generation of MG models.
