Polestar has revealed the first details of its new Formula 2030 concept, a car designed to provide an early look at the next generation of models from the Swedish electric performance brand. More than simply a standalone design exercise, the concept will influence upcoming production cars including the next Polestar 2 and the forthcoming Polestar 7. Formula 2030 forms part of Polestar’s wider strategy for the end of the decade, as the company looks to grow its model range while strengthening its focus on performance, technology and sustainability. Importantly, the concept also provides our first indication of the design direction being taken by the replacement for the Polestar 2, which is currently planned to arrive in 2027.
The design has been developed under Polestar Head of Design Philipp Römers and represents what the company describes as an evolution rather than a complete reinvention of its existing Scandinavian styling. While exterior proportions, interior design, materials and sustainability will all move forward, familiar Polestar signatures will remain. Among those features will be the distinctive Dual Blade headlight treatment, which Polestar sees as an increasingly important part of its visual identity. The intention is to allow future models to develop a stronger and more individual character while remaining instantly recognisable as part of the Polestar family.
“Polestar’s design and brand is already so strong, it was obvious we needed a bold evolution, not revolution, of what came before,” said Römers. “Formula 2030 delivers this, showcasing our future while respecting brand-defining elements like the familiar Dual Blade headlights, ensuring it remains recognisably a Polestar with a strong, characterful identity.”
While Polestar has yet to reveal detailed technical information about Formula 2030, the concept is also intended to reinforce the performance credentials that have been central to the company since its launch as a standalone electric brand. Elements of its design and thinking will eventually make their way into both the new Polestar 2 and Polestar 7 as the manufacturer continues expanding and renewing its range. The Formula 2030 concept will initially be shown behind closed doors to investors, retailers and selected customers during a strategy event at The Cube, Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg. The show car will then make its full public debut later this year, when we should get a much clearer look at what the next generation of Polestar models has in store.
