Hyundai IONIQ 3 Shortlisted for European Car of the Year 2027

Hyundai’s new IONIQ 3 has secured a place among the seven finalists competing for the prestigious European Car of the Year 2027 title. The all-electric compact hatchback has been selected by an independent panel of motoring journalists from across Europe, putting it in contention for one of the automotive industry’s most recognised awards. The overall winner will be announced on 8 January 2027 during the Brussels Motor Show. The nomination represents another significant achievement for Hyundai’s expanding electric vehicle range, particularly as the Korean manufacturer continues to strengthen its presence in the increasingly competitive European EV market.

Designed and developed specifically for European motorists, the IONIQ 3 is manufactured at Hyundai’s İzmit production facility in Türkiye. The compact hatchback introduces the company’s distinctive Art of Steel design philosophy, combining sharp exterior styling with an emphasis on interior space, aerodynamics and everyday practicality. Buyers can expect a driving range of up to 497 kilometres under the WLTP testing cycle in Long Range specification, while the cabin incorporates modern connectivity features and technology intended to make electric motoring more accessible. Importantly, the IONIQ 3 is positioned as one of Hyundai’s more affordable electric offerings, with prices starting below €30,000 in European markets. In Ireland, the model is already available through Hyundai dealerships nationwide, with prices starting from €27,995.

Christopher McKinnon, Vice President and Head of Product at Hyundai Motor Europe, welcomed the nomination, describing it as recognition of the considerable development work behind the new model. He explained that Hyundai’s objective was to create an electric car tailored to European customers, combining distinctive design, strong driving range, generous interior accommodation and advanced technology at a competitive price. According to McKinnon, early customer demand has exceeded the manufacturer’s initial expectations, providing an encouraging start for the latest addition to the IONIQ family. With the European Car of the Year announcement now just over two months away, the IONIQ 3 will be hoping to add another major accolade to Hyundai’s growing list of achievements in the electric vehicle sector.
