Lap of Tasmania on a Single Tank!

Nissan has completed the second chapter of its real-world e-POWER efficiency programme, with the Qashqai e-POWER successfully completing a full lap of Tasmania on a single tank of fuel. The achievement follows an earlier challenge in the UK, where the hybrid SUV travelled from Land’s End to John O’Groats, highlighting the ability of Nissan’s latest e-POWER technology to deliver strong fuel economy and an EV-like driving experience in a variety of conditions. In the UK, the Qashqai e-POWER covered 1,347km on a single tank, recording fuel consumption of 3.76L/100km and still showing 160km of remaining range at the end of the journey.

For the second challenge, Nissan took the Qashqai e-POWER to Tasmania, tackling mountain roads, coastal routes and mixed highway driving. Despite the more demanding terrain, the SUV completed an entire lap of the island without refuelling, covering more than 1,300km and returning real-world fuel consumption of 4.5L/100km. Together, the two journeys demonstrate the consistency and versatility of Nissan’s latest e-POWER system across different climates and driving environments.

Unlike conventional hybrids, Nissan’s e-POWER technology uses a petrol engine solely to generate electricity, while the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor. The result is smooth, responsive performance and EV-like refinement without the need to plug in. Qashqai e-POWER, which was named Hybrid Car of the Year at the 2025 News UK Motor Awards for the second consecutive year, combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with Nissan’s integrated 5-in-1 powertrain to deliver fuel consumption of 4.5L/100km (WLTP).

David Moss, Senior Vice President, Research and Development at Nissan AMIEO, said the two journeys demonstrate the latest generation of e-POWER’s ability to deliver efficiency, refinement and long-distance usability across a wide range of real-world driving conditions.
