Land Rover Ireland has launched its all-new Discovery Sport, the first member of the new Discovery family. Prices for the Discovery Sport commence from €37,100 for the 2.2-litre TD4 S model. The Discovery Sport features 5+2 seating and has an adaptable loadspace. From launch customers can choose from two engine configurations, both variants utilise a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, the entry-level TD4 model produces 150hp, while the SD4 variant has 190hp, this is priced from €41,780. Later this year Land Rover will introduce a new 2.0-litre ED4 turbodiesel engine with CO2 emissions of 119g/km. All Discovery Sports come equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with a nine-speed ZF automatic transmission available optionally. There are four trim lines to choose from, S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury.

The range of standard equipment is extensive and includes Land Rover’s new infotainment system, complete with an 8” screen. Also standard is Land Rover’s Terrain Response System, it has four settings for driving on and off-road. If you do venture off-road the Discovery Sport is a competent machine and can wade through 600 millimetres of water. This premium compact SUV is also equipped with a pedestrian airbag which deploys below the windscreen. We had a brief drive of this new Land Rover Discovery Sport earlier today. It impressed us with its on-road handling along country roads, the interior offers a high-level of comfort for all occupants, although the rear-most two seats are really only suitable for children. We will be testing the new Discovery Sport over the coming weeks for a complete road test.
