Renault has unveiled a significant update for the Megane E-Tech electric, introducing a fresh new look, improved battery technology and quicker charging as it looks to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive family EV segment. First launched in 2022 as the brand’s first model built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, the refreshed Megane E-Tech focuses on four key areas: design, performance, technology and connectivity. Visually, the updated model receives a redesigned front end featuring Renault’s latest lighting signature, a new grille and a more sculpted front bumper, giving the Megane a sportier and more modern appearance. Buyers will now choose from just two trim levels, Techno and Esprit Alpine, with the latter gaining exclusive styling details, 20-inch alloy wheels and a new Satin Blue exterior paint option.
Under the skin, one of the biggest changes is the introduction of a new 67kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery paired with Renault’s 220hp electric motor. The updated powertrain delivers up to 500km of WLTP driving range, produces 300Nm of torque and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds. Renault says the new cell-to-pack battery design improves both efficiency and usable energy capacity. Charging performance has also been upgraded. DC rapid charging capability increases to 165kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 15 to 80 per cent in around 24 minutes. An 11kW AC onboard charger is fitted as standard, while a 22kW version remains available as an option. The Megane also continues to offer Vehicle-to-Load functionality, enabling owners to power external electrical devices directly from the car’s battery.
Inside, Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment system remains at the heart of the cabin, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument display with a 12-inch central touchscreen featuring Google built-in services, Google Maps EV route planning and Google Assistant voice control. Renault has also confirmed that Google Gemini AI will be introduced through a future software update. Additional technology includes one-pedal driving, a new driver recognition system, Qi2-compatible wireless phone charging and Smart Mode, which automatically adjusts the vehicle’s driving characteristics between Eco, Comfort and Sport settings. More than 100 apps will also be available to download through Google Play.
Safety has also been enhanced with more than 30 driver assistance systems, including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Stop Assist, Predictive Eco Driving Advice and Renault’s Safety Score and Safety Coach features. Meanwhile, an updated my rnlt smartphone app allows owners to remotely monitor charging, pre-condition the cabin and manage a range of vehicle functions. The updated Megane E-Tech electric continues to be built in France at Renault’s ElectriCity facility in Douai, with both the electric motor and battery also produced domestically.
Irish pricing and specification details will be confirmed closer to the model’s local launch, but the revised Megane E-Tech electric looks set to remain one of the strongest contenders in Ireland’s compact EV market.
