The BMW iX3 has taken top honours at the 2026 World Car Awards, securing both World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle titles. The all-electric SUV impressed an international jury of 98 motoring journalists, who praised its performance, driving dynamics and advanced technology following extensive testing. As the first model from BMW’s Neue Klasse generation, the iX3 represents a major step forward for the brand. First revealed at IAA Mobility 2025, it introduces a new design language along with significant advances in efficiency, range and charging capability. With a WLTP range of up to 805 kilometres and charging speeds of up to 400 kW, it sets a strong benchmark in the electric SUV segment.
The iX3 is powered by a dual-motor setup producing 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. It also features BMW’s latest sixth-generation eDrive technology, including an 800-volt architecture and a high-capacity 108.7 kWh battery. Fast charging allows up to 372 kilometres of range to be added in just 10 minutes. Inside, the new Panoramic iDrive system defines the cabin experience. It combines a full-width windscreen display, a large central touchscreen and optional head-up display, all powered by BMW Operating System X. Four high-performance control units manage key vehicle functions, including driving dynamics, infotainment and driver assistance systems, delivering significantly increased computing power over previous models.
The iX3 stood out among strong competition, beating 57 contenders for the overall title and 43 vehicles in the electric category. Its success also contributed to a milestone for BMW, marking the brand’s tenth and eleventh wins at the World Car Awards. With its combination of long range, rapid charging and next-generation technology, the BMW iX3 signals a new chapter for the brand and highlights the direction of its future electric models.
