Volkswagen’s all-new seventh-generation Golf has gone on sale across Volkswagen dealerships nationwide. This new model is lighter, safer, more spacious and more efficient than its predecessor. Prices commence from €19,995 for the 3-door 1.2-litre 85hp Trendline model. The new Golf is available across three trim specifications, Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The range comprises of petrol and diesel models, the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol unit is available across two power outputs, 85ho and 105hp. There’s also a 1.4-litre TSI engine which has 140hp, it comes complete with Active Cylinder Technology. The diesel line-up consists of a 1.6-litre TDI with 105hp and a new 2.0-litre TDI offering a vigorous 150hp, there will also be a 90hp diesel variant launched during 2013. Volkswagen offer a mixture of five and six-speed manual gearboxes and six and seven-speed twin-clutch DSG transmissions.
All models of the new Volkswagen Golf come equipped with seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, five three-point seatbelts, ABS with ESP, XDS electronic differential lock and Isofix preparation for two rear child seats. The entry-level Trendline model comes with a 5-inch colour touchscreen, FM/AM radio as well as eight speakers (front and rear) and a CD drive (MP3 compatible). The CD drive is located in the glovebox along with the SD card slot. It also has Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning and an electronic parking brake fitted as standard.
The new Volkswagen Golf is available to be purchased through Volkswagen Bank, with hire purchase rates of 4.9 per cent available and PCP (Personal Contract Plan) rates from €239 per month, including delivery charges.
