Citroën To Bring Back Iconic 2CV

As part of Stellantis’ FaSTLAne strategic plan, Citroën has officially confirmed the return of one of the most iconic names in automotive history with a new model inspired by the legendary 2CV. Originally created to make mobility accessible to all, the Citroën 2CV became a symbol of simple, clever and comfortable transport that transformed everyday life for millions of people. Now, in a world increasingly focused on affordable and meaningful mobility solutions, Citroën believes the core philosophy that made the original 2CV so successful is more relevant than ever. Rather than simply recreating the past through nostalgia, Citroën says the new model will reinterpret the spirit of the original for a new generation of drivers. The upcoming vehicle will focus on the same essential values that defined the 2CV: affordability, lightweight design, practicality, versatility and a distinctive character unlike anything else on the road today.

True to Citroën’s long-standing design philosophy, the aim is not simply to build a retro-inspired car, but to create the “icon of tomorrow” while remaining faithful to the original TPV brief that gave birth to the 2CV. Citroën says the project is centred around the idea that true innovation comes not from adding unnecessary complexity, but from improving everyday life and focusing on what really matters. The future model is being developed to address the growing challenges of modern electric mobility and increasingly restrictive urban regulations. Citroën believes it will help create a new category of affordable small electric vehicles, offering drivers greater freedom of movement without compromising on personality, usability or desirability. Even before the arrival of the new model, Citroën says the ë-C3 already represents a step towards this philosophy, particularly the 200km range version which starts from €22,455 in Ireland and is designed to offer an accessible electric mobility solution for everyday driving.

Commenting on the announcement, Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon said: “Reinventing the 2CV of tomorrow is a huge challenge and responsibility. The original 2CV was never created to become an icon. It became one because it gave people freedom. The new 2CV will carry that same spirit forward, not through nostalgia, but by reinventing its simplicity and accessibility for today’s world. Electric. Essential. Affordable. Human. Just like the original once democratised mobility, the new 2CV will re-enchant electric mobility for a new generation through a highly desirable model. The return of the 2CV is not simply the return of a legendary name. It is the return of a bold and optimistic idea of progress. A profoundly Citroën idea.”
