Citroën has revisited one of its most recognisable commercial vehicles with the unveiling of the 2 CV Fourgonnette Concept, a modern electric interpretation of the practical little van that served generations of tradespeople, shopkeepers and delivery drivers. Inspired by the original 2 CV Fourgonnette, the new design study combines the character and simplicity of its predecessor with contemporary electric mobility. The result is a distinctive, compact commercial vehicle concept that places practicality, affordability and ease of use at the centre of its design. Developed as the light commercial vehicle counterpart to the recently revealed 2 CV Concept, the Fourgonnette follows the same philosophy of keeping things simple while introducing clever solutions for everyday use. Citroën’s designers have sought to capture the charm of the original while exploring how its familiar shape and practical approach could translate into a modern electric vehicle.
“The 2 CV Fourgonnette was more than just a work tool. It was part of everyday life. Simple, ingenious and accessible, it above all possessed something few commercial vehicles have: a soul,” said Xavier Chardon, CEO of Citroën and DS Automobiles.
“That is the spirit we are bringing back to life today. Because being useful should never mean being ordinary.”
The concept also celebrates Citroën’s long-standing relationship with commercial vehicle customers. For more than a century, the French manufacturer has developed vehicles aimed at small businesses, tradespeople and delivery operators, with an emphasis on practicality and everyday usability. Importantly, Citroën has confirmed that the 2 CV Fourgonnette Concept is currently a design exercise rather than a preview of an imminent production vehicle. Created as a passion project by the company’s design team, it explores how one of the brand’s most beloved models could be reimagined for a new generation. While there are no immediate plans to bring the electric Fourgonnette into production, the concept demonstrates that the original 2 CV’s combination of simplicity, versatility and unmistakable character remains relevant today.
