Cedar Motor Group Welcomes Government’s Swift Action

Cedar Motor Group, representing Nissan, Renault, Dacia and Windsor Motor Group in Ireland, has welcomed the Government’s quick decision to increase the number of vehicles eligible under the recently announced electric vehicle scrappage scheme, following strong industry feedback that the initiative had become oversubscribed within a short period of its launch.

The move comes as demand for the scheme exceeded initial expectations, highlighting the appetite among Irish motorists to transition from older, higher-emission vehicles into cleaner electric alternatives when meaningful supports are made available. Cedar Motors said the Government’s rapid response sends a positive signal to both consumers and the motor industry and demonstrates the value of collaboration between policymakers and industry stakeholders in driving Ireland’s transition to lower-emission transport.

Seamus Morgan, Managing Director of Cedar Motors Group, said:
“We welcome the Government’s swift decision to expand the EV scrappage scheme following feedback from across the motor industry that the original allocation had been oversubscribed. The speed of this response is particularly encouraging and reflects the strong level of consumer interest that exists in making the switch to electric vehicles.”

“The success of the scheme demonstrates that Irish motorists are willing to embrace electric mobility when the right supports are in place. For many consumers, affordability remains a key consideration, and initiatives such as this help make the move to electric driving a more realistic option.”

“We were pleased to see the Government listen to the concerns raised by the industry and act quickly to ensure more motorists can avail of the scheme. It is a positive example of how industry and Government can work together to support consumers and accelerate the transition to cleaner transport.”

“Supporting the uptake of electric vehicles is essential if Ireland is to achieve its emissions reduction targets. Measures such as the scrappage scheme not only help remove older, higher-emission vehicles from our roads, but also encourage the adoption of the latest low and zero-emission technologies.”

“Today’s announcement is another step in the right direction. We would encourage the Government to continue building on this momentum and consider further measures and incentives for the forthcoming 271 registration period. The demand is clearly there, and with continued support Ireland can position itself as a leader in sustainable transport.”

“Consumers have shown they want to make the change. This expansion of the scheme is good for motorists, good for the environment and good for Ireland overall.”

As one of Ireland’s leading automotive retail groups, Cedar Motor Group continues to see growing demand for electric vehicles across the Nissan, Renault and Dacia ranges and believes sustained support and policy certainty will play a critical role in achieving Ireland’s long-term climate and transport objectives.
