FIAT has unveiled its new Multiplay concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, offering a fresh interpretation of the brand’s long-standing approach to practical family motoring. Measuring 4.45 metres in length, the Multiplay combines elements of an MPV, SUV and pick-up, with an innovative design that allows the vehicle to change configuration depending on the needs of its occupants. Although not intended as a preview of a specific production model, the concept explores several ideas that could influence future FIAT vehicles, particularly when it comes to interior space, flexibility and everyday usability.
The most interesting feature is what FIAT calls its C-Pillar ‘Metamorfosi’ architecture, which incorporates a sliding rear module capable of transforming the vehicle from a seven-place family carrier into a four-seat pick-up with an open load bed. In its family configuration, the Multiplay offers six conventional seats alongside a flexible additional seating and storage unit known as the ‘Petsenger’. This can accommodate a child seat, provide a dedicated space for pets or function as a small table or storage compartment. When additional carrying capacity is required, the rear section can be repositioned to create an open load area suitable for bicycles, sporting equipment or larger items. Even the rear spoiler serves a dual purpose, rotating to become an integrated bicycle rack capable of carrying two bikes.
The concept takes inspiration from FIAT’s original 600 Multipla of 1956 and the distinctive Multipla introduced in 1998, both of which challenged conventional thinking around passenger space and vehicle dimensions. Inside, the new Multiplay continues that philosophy with a highly adaptable cabin, generous glazing and a panoramic roof designed to create a bright and spacious environment. The front passenger seat can even be repositioned into a lounge-style arrangement when parked, while the rear seating area has been designed to accommodate children comfortably without sacrificing the ability to carry adults when required.
FIAT has also introduced some playful Italian design touches, with the exterior and interior colour scheme inspired by a watermelon. Bright green bodywork is complemented by red, pink and turquoise interior finishes, while sustainable materials and a simplified dashboard help create a modern cabin. A concealed digital display disappears when the vehicle is switched off, maintaining a clean appearance, while washable surfaces and practical storage solutions reflect the concept’s family-focused approach.
Speaking about the Multiplay, FIAT CEO Arnaud Belloni explained that the concept was developed to explore how one vehicle could adapt to the changing demands of everyday family life. While there are no confirmed production plans, the Multiplay demonstrates that FIAT is continuing to experiment with the clever packaging and unconventional thinking that made earlier models such as the Multipla so distinctive. Whether any of its more ambitious features eventually reach showrooms remains to be seen, but the concept certainly offers an interesting alternative to the increasingly familiar SUV formula.
