All-New Mazda CX‑6e

The all new Mazda CX-6e represents the latest evolution of the Japanese brand’s design philosophy, combining a more progressive look with the familiar principles of Kodo, Soul of Motion. Developed in Europe in close collaboration with Mazda’s design team in Japan, the fully electric SUV introduces new proportions and a more technical appearance while retaining the character that has become a hallmark of modern Mazda models. Guided by what Mazda calls its Soulful Futuristic Modern design theme, particular attention has been given to the CX-6e’s proportions, sculpted surfaces and wheel design to create a lighter, sportier appearance and more dynamic stance.

One of the defining elements is the sense of movement created throughout the exterior, with a fast silhouette, floating D pillar and carefully shaped body surfaces designed to give the CX-6e visual energy even when stationary. The design evolved through an extensive collaboration between Mazda’s European and Japanese teams, involving numerous design reviews alongside clay and digital modelling. Craftsmanship was equally important, with surfaces, highlights and transitions developed around the Japanese principle of Takumi craftsmanship.

Bahram Partaw, Lead Designer at Mazda’s European Research and Design Centre, said: “One of our goals was to create a strong sense of tension throughout the design. Elements such as the fast silhouette, the floating D pillar and the carefully sculpted body surfaces work together to give the vehicle a sense of movement and energy, even when standing still.”

Aerodynamics were incorporated into the CX-6e from the beginning rather than being treated as a separate part of the development process. Vents integrated into the front help direct airflow through the fascia and across the sculpted bonnet, while compact digital side mirrors contribute to both aerodynamic efficiency and the cleaner overall appearance. Mazda says digital mirrors also allowed designers to bring the production vehicle closer to their original sketches, which are often created without conventional exterior mirrors. The CX-6e’s 21 inch accessory wheel was developed at Mazda’s European Research and Design Centre in Oberursel and has been designed specifically to complement the SUV’s new proportions and styling.

Jo Stenuit, Design Director at Mazda Motor Europe, commented: “The CX-6e explores how Kodo can evolve while remaining instantly recognisable. Rather than changing the essence of Mazda design, we focused on finding new ways to express it through proportion, surface treatment and aerodynamic integration. The result is a vehicle that feels progressive while staying faithful to Mazda’s design philosophy.”

The all new Mazda CX-6e is scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in August 2026.
