Ford and Renault Group have announced a landmark strategic partnership aimed at expanding Ford’s electric vehicle offering for European customers while enhancing competitiveness for both companies in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape. At the core of this collaboration is an agreement to develop two all-new Ford-branded electric vehicles. These models will be based on the Ampere platform, leveraging Renault Group’s strong EV capabilities, cost competitiveness and industrial scale. Both vehicles will be produced by Renault Group in Northern France, showcasing Ampere’s ElectriCity network and its state-of-the-art manufacturing expertise.

Designed by Ford and developed in close collaboration with Renault Group, the two EVs will feature distinctive Ford driving dynamics, brand character and intuitive user experiences. They represent the first step in a significant new product offensive for Ford in Europe, with the first model expected to reach showrooms in early 2028. In parallel to the EV partnership, Ford and Renault Group have signed a Letter of Intent to explore a European collaboration on light commercial vehicles. Under this LOI, the companies will assess opportunities to jointly develop and manufacture selected Ford- and Renault-branded LCVs for the European market.

François Provost, CEO of Renault Group, said: “Renault Group is proud to announce a new strategic cooperation with Ford, an iconic global manufacturer. This partnership highlights our strengths in collaboration and competitiveness in Europe. By combining our capabilities, we will become more innovative and more responsive in a fast-changing market.”

Jim Farley, President and CEO of Ford Motor Company, added: “This strategic partnership marks an important step for Ford and supports our plan to build a highly efficient, future-ready business in Europe. We will unite Renault Group’s industrial scale and EV expertise with Ford’s iconic design and driving dynamics to create vehicles that are fun, capable and unmistakably Ford.”

By combining their respective strengths in innovation, design, software and services, both companies aim to better address industry challenges and deliver enhanced value to customers across retail and commercial segments. The partnership also draws on decades of shared experience in the LCV sector and the extensive supplier networks of both automakers, creating a powerful foundation for accelerated innovation and efficiency in the European market.
