MG Motor Ireland is preparing to welcome a major new arrival in early 2026. The all-new MGS6 EV is a mid-size electric SUV designed to broaden MG’s appeal with Irish buyers who want space, range and technology without stepping into premium price territory. Built on the brand’s Modular Scalable Platform—the same architecture that underpins the well-regarded MG4—the S6 promises the kind of dynamic polish, cabin room and long-distance usability that matter on Irish roads. It has already secured a five-star Euro NCAP rating, setting a strong safety baseline before the first cars reach showrooms.

The line-up is straightforward and clearly tiered. Two rear-wheel-drive versions sit at the core of the range, both using a 77 kWh battery and a 180 kW motor, and both quoting an impressive WLTP range of up to 530 kilometres. The Excite Long Range focuses on value while the Exclusive Long Range adds extra comfort and technology without compromising that headline range. Above them sits the performance-oriented Exclusive Dual Motor with all-wheel drive. Total output rises to 266 kW and 540 Nm, cutting the 0 to 100 km/h sprint to 5.1 seconds while still delivering a WLTP range of 485 kilometres. Regardless of variant, public rapid charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 38 minutes, and the car offers five drive modes and five regeneration settings, including a one-pedal option for city traffic.

Inside, the MGS6 EV aims to feel more like a well-equipped family car than a technology showcase. Every model features a 10.25-inch high-definition driver display and a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, with a sensible mix of physical controls for climate and audio placed below. The Exclusive trim elevates the experience with a head-up display that projects key information onto the windscreen and brings a suite of comfort features, including heated and ventilated front seats, an 11-speaker audio system and a fixed panoramic sunroof with electric blind. Seat trims move up a notch too, with a choice of grey or beige leather-style upholstery with suede-effect inserts for a more upscale look.

Space is one of the S6’s calling cards. The flat-floor platform and ultra-thin battery pack free up generous legroom front and rear, while thoughtful storage touches make day-to-day life easier. The numbers tell the story: a 674-litre boot expands to 1,910 litres with the rear seats folded, and there is a useful front storage compartment with up to 124 litres of capacity for charging cables or everyday kit. MG’s iSMART app supports the practical theme, letting owners pre-condition the cabin, check range and vehicle status, monitor tyre pressures and find a parked car from their phone.

Connectivity is modern and easy to use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, and Exclusive models add native apps such as YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music and TikTok to keep passengers entertained when parked. A 50 W ventilated wireless phone charger is available, and the interface can be tailored with three driver display themes.

Safety has been given equal weight. Euro NCAP’s five-star verdict was built on high adult and vulnerable road-user scores, supported by seven airbags and the comprehensive MG Pilot driver-assistance suite. Features include Active Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, lane-support functions and a driver monitoring system. MG Pilot Custom lets owners store their preferred assistance settings rather than re-selecting them on each journey. Working with Continental, MG has also fitted an integrated braking booster designed for EVs. Large discs front and rear provide strong, consistent stopping power, with the single-motor versions capable of stopping from 100 km/h in 36 metres according to MG’s figures.

On the move, the chassis hardware should bring a reassuring blend of comfort and control. A MacPherson strut front end and multi-link rear axle form the foundations, tuned to work with five selectable drive modes named Normal, Sport, Comfort, Custom and Snow. The rear-drive Excite and Exclusive versions boast an 11.1-metre turning circle for easy manoeuvring in tight urban streets, while the all-wheel-drive model adds the security of additional traction in poor conditions without losing refinement.

Aerodynamics play a quiet but important role in the S6’s efficiency. MG says the body achieved a drag coefficient of 0.27 after more than 900 simulations and 5,000 minutes of wind-tunnel testing. An active grille shutter, front wheel deflectors and low-resistance aero wheel covers can contribute as much as 48 kilometres of extra range under the WLTP protocol. Wheel designs include 19-inch Meteor alloys on the Excite Long Range and 20-inch Gulfstream alloys on the Exclusive trims. The styling is crisp and technical, with a split-grille nose, lighting signatures inspired by the Cyberster roadster and a full-width rear light bar. Colour choices span Arctic White, Urban Grey, Cosmic Silver, Dynamic Red and Pearl Black, joined by a distinctive Satin Gold finish.

Irish pricing will be announced closer to launch, with first showroom arrivals expected in the opening months of 2026 when order books officially open. On paper, the MGS6 EV delivers the ingredients that matter most to Irish families and commuters: big-car space, long-range capability, rapid charging and a high level of standard kit, all underpinned by proven safety credentials. With rear-wheel-drive efficiency for everyday life and a dual-motor flagship for those who want extra performance, MG’s newest EV looks set to add real depth to the brand’s growing range.
