We recently had the opportunity for a brief test drive in Ford’s all-new Puma Gen-E, a model designed to re-energise the fun-to-drive character that has made the compact crossover such a success across Europe. Building on the sporty looks, nimble handling, and class-leading practicality of the original, the Gen-E is billed as Ford’s “best ever Puma” now powered by a highly efficient all-electric drivetrain.
The Puma Gen-E offers up to 376 km on a full charge, with an impressive 523 km city range for multiple days of urban driving without plugging in. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 8.0 seconds matches the thrill of the Puma ST, while sharper steering response adds to the fun factor. Drivers can choose from multiple drive modes, enjoy a simplified electronic shifter, and even activate one-pedal driving for easy city use. Advanced driver assistance systems further reduce stress in busy or demanding conditions.
While instantly recognisable as a Puma, the Gen-E gets a fresh electric-focused look. A bold “shield” grille, inspired by the Ford Mustang Mach-E, replaces the traditional front design. A sporty rear spoiler, unique alloy wheels, and aerodynamic tweaks improve efficiency and performance.
The cabin combines comfort, connectivity, and practicality. A fully digital cockpit and Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system come as standard, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Connected Navigation. The standout luggage solution, previously known as the MegaBox, has now grown into the GigaBox, offering almost double the space and more storage than some larger SUVs.
In Ireland, two versions are available:
-
Gen-E Select – from €32,916
-
Gen-E Premium – from €35,718
We’ll soon spend a full week with the Puma Gen-E to explore its real-world range and everyday usability.
