Yesterday we visited Gowan HQ in Citywest to see the all-new Opel Frontera, which has now officially arrived in dealerships nationwide. This important new model marks Opel’s return to the compact family SUV segment, and it does so with a focus on value, versatility, and a broad powertrain line-up tailored to Irish buyers. Every Frontera sold here comes with a 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty, and customers can choose from three trims at launch, all offered initially as five-seaters. A seven-seat version will join the range before the end of the year. Prices start at €24,606 for the all-electric Frontera after SEAI grant and VRT relief, making it one of Ireland’s most competitively priced electric SUVs. The new Frontera Hybrid begins at €27,995 plus delivery, further reinforcing its value-first appeal.

We first drove the Frontera at its international launch in Majorca, but it was great to get behind the wheel again on home soil. Rugged and boxy in all the right ways, the new model immediately stands out thanks to its upright stance, bold wheel arches, and the latest Opel Vizor front face proudly carrying the brand’s new Blitz emblem. Offered in a palette of bright, modern colours, it has real presence and a character that fits naturally with everyday family adventures. Inside, the Frontera’s cabin blends modern design with genuine practicality. Wide-opening rear doors make access easy, particularly for loading child seats, and Opel has clearly focused on usable space. The boot offers up to 460 litres of capacity, expanding to 1,594 litres with the rear seats folded. A 60/40 split bench and dual load floor enhance versatility, while optional roof rails are available for those who need even more carrying ability.

Powertrain options include two petrol hybrids (100PS and 136PS) and two electric variants. At launch, buyers can choose a 44kWh 113PS version with a 300km range, while a larger-battery 54kWh model promising around 400km will arrive in 2026. The entry SC trim comes well equipped, featuring a 10-inch driver display, smartphone station, LED headlights with auto high beam, cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision alert, and rear park assist. Stepping up to Elegance adds a 10-inch HD touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, heated front seats and steering wheel, a rear-view camera, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

At the top of the range, the GS trim brings additional styling upgrades including a black roof, privacy glass, gloss-black mirrors, plus front and rear park assist, LED foglamps, and side blind spot alert. A seven-seat GS hybrid is due later this year, priced €1,500 above the five-seat model. With the addition of the Frontera, alongside the recently launched Grandland and refreshed Mokka, Opel now offers Irish punters one of the freshest and most competitive SUV line-ups on the market. In the new year it’s our intention to spend a week with the Frontera where we see how it fares out in every day life!
