Nissan has achieved a new milestone for its e-POWER hybrid technology, with the latest Qashqai earning a Guinness World Records title for the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric SUV without refuelling or external charging. The Nissan Qashqai e-POWER covered an impressive 1,980 kilometres on a single tank of fuel during a journey across Colombia from Bogotá to the Caribbean coast between 14th and 17th July 2026. The route included a variety of roads, traffic and driving conditions, with the attempt independently monitored and verified by Guinness World Records. The achievement follows previous long-distance e-POWER challenges undertaken by Nissan in the UK and Tasmania and highlights the efficiency and real-world range offered by the latest generation of the technology.
Unlike a conventional hybrid, the Qashqai e-POWER is driven exclusively by its electric motor. A petrol engine acts as a generator to produce electricity when required, meaning the vehicle delivers much of the smoothness and instant response associated with an EV without needing to be plugged in. The latest e-POWER system uses Nissan’s compact 5-in-1 modular powertrain, integrating the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a single package. Regenerative braking also helps recover energy and improve overall efficiency.
Richard Candler, Nissan Corporate Executive for Family, Product & Components Strategy, said the record demonstrated the capability of the latest e-POWER technology, combining efficiency and refinement with an EV-like driving experience. The 1,980km record further strengthens Nissan’s case for e-POWER as a stepping stone for motorists who want some of the characteristics of electric driving while retaining the convenience of conventional refuelling.
