AA Ireland’s latest monthly fuel price survey shows overall stability at the pumps for September, giving motorists a predictable start to the month. Petrol prices remain unchanged, Diesel drops by 1 cent & EV home charging to see a turbulent few months ahead.

  • Unleaded petrol: unchanged at €1.70 per litre (€1.70 in August).
  • Diesel: €1.67 per litre, down €0.01 from €1.68 in August.
  • EV home charging: While costs currently remain steady, Bord Gáis Energy, Energia, Pinergy customers to see price increases from October onwards.

A spokesperson for AA Ireland said:

“Motorists will welcome some stability this September. Petrol remains unchanged, while diesel has dipped slightly. At a time when families face back-to-school costs, that predictability is a real help. EV owners are still enjoying steady home-charging costs for now, but from October many households will see their bills rise as providers increase tariffs.”

AA Ireland reminds motorists that simple efficiency measures can reduce fuel consumption and running costs: smooth acceleration, avoiding harsh braking and keeping tyres correctly inflated all help.

AA Ireland spokesperson added:

“We strongly encourage EV drivers to review their current energy plan and check if they’re on an EV-specific tariff. Switching to an overnight charging plan can significantly cut costs and help offset the upcoming increases.”

For drivers wanting to optimise vehicle performance, AA Ireland’s Service Centres in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Newbridge offer check-ups and servicing. No membership is required, and the service is open to everyone. Regular servicing not only improves efficiency but can also prevent unexpected breakdowns. Finally, AA Ireland encourages motorists to shop around for the best fuel prices, as local stations outside motorways and airports often offer lower rates.
