BYD has kicked off the year with real momentum, unveiling the new Seal 6 Super Hybrid, a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powered by the brand’s intelligent Super DM technology. Making its Irish debut in both a sleek Saloon and, for the first time for BYD in Europe, a highly practical estate variant known as the Seal 6 Super Hybrid Touring, it broadens the brand’s appeal to families and long-distance drivers alike. True to form, the Seal 6 Super Hybrid is offered locally in Boost and Comfort trims, each generously equipped with high levels of standard specification, distinctive ocean-inspired design cues and keen pricing. The Saloon starts from €37,490, while the Touring model follows at €38,999, positioning both as compelling value propositions in their respective segments.

Following the success of the Seal U Super Hybrid SUV last year, the Seal 6 becomes the second BYD model in Ireland to feature the brand’s dual-mode DM-i technology and marks the first of six new BYD models scheduled to arrive here in 2025. At the heart of the Seal 6 Super Hybrid is BYD’s Super DM system, which prioritises electric driving for maximum efficiency and everyday usability. With a fully charged battery, the car operates as a pure EV; once charge levels drop, it seamlessly switches to ultra-efficient hybrid operation, delivering a quiet, smooth and reassuring driving experience. This intelligent pairing of electric motor, battery and compact petrol engine enables over 100km of electric-only driving and a combined range of up to 1,505km in the Saloon Boost variant with a full battery and tank.
Buyers are further reassured by BYD’s extended warranty on its cobalt-free Blade Battery, now covered for up to eight years or 250,000 kilometres. Sized firmly in the family-car class, the Seal 6 Super Hybrid offers generous space for five adults within a sleek, aerodynamic body measuring 4,840mm in length and riding on a 2,790mm wheelbase. Its flowing, ocean-themed exterior design blends sharp detailing with sculpted lines, enhanced by active aerodynamics, distinctive 18-inch alloy wheels and striking LED lighting front and rear.

Inside, the cabin balances comfort and technology, with quality materials, electrically adjustable front seats and a large central touchscreen providing access to navigation, connectivity, entertainment and driver assistance systems. Features such as intelligent voice control, multi-speaker audio, 4G connectivity and ample storage underline its everyday usability. Safety is equally comprehensive, with a full five-star Euro NCAP rating supported by a wide suite of driver assistance technologies including parking sensors, 360-degree camera and advanced radar systems. Practicality is a strong point too, with the Saloon offering up to 1,370 litres of load space and the Touring stretching that to an impressive 1,535 litres when the rear seats are folded.
Boost models feature a 10.08kWh battery and up to 55km of electric range, while Comfort versions increase capacity to 19kWh and up to 105km of EV driving. Rapid charging from 30 to 80 percent takes just 23 minutes, while fuel consumption remains impressively low across both body styles. With growing dealer coverage across Ireland and strong early sales momentum, BYD believes the Seal 6 Super Hybrid has the potential to reshape expectations. Offering genuine electric driving for daily use alongside exceptional long-distance capability, it aims to deliver the best of both worlds for Irish motorists considering their next step into electrified driving.
