Audi is expanding its Q5 family, introducing new plug-in hybrid variants that combine electric mobility with the brand’s signature performance and sophistication. Alongside the existing combustion models equipped with mild-hybrid technology, both the Q5 SUV and Q5 Sportback will now be available as plug-in hybrids. These new e-hybrid quattro models can be ordered in two power outputs, 220 kW and 270 kW bringing even more choice to the range.
With this latest evolution, Audi continues the success story of the Q5 in the premium mid-size SUV segment. The new plug-in hybrids blend the practical strengths of an SUV and Sportback—ample space, everyday usability, quattro all-wheel drive—with progressive design and improved efficiency. A sleeker silhouette, modern powertrains, and a revised digital operating concept define the new generation. Offering up to 270 kW of system power and an electric range of up to 100 kilometres, the Q5 e-hybrid models deliver a dynamic yet refined driving experience.
Both power variants are powered by a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine producing 185 kW, working in tandem with an electric motor. In the higher 270 kW version, the Q5 SUV and Sportback sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, while the 220 kW variant achieves the same in 6.2 seconds. Top speed for all versions is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The combination of an electrified dual-clutch transmission and Audi’s ultra quattro system ensures precise and responsive handling.
One of the key upgrades lies in the high-voltage battery, now featuring a two-level cell layout. Its capacity has been increased to 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh), about 45 percent more than its predecessor. Charging at up to 11 kW with AC power, a full charge from empty takes approximately 2.5 hours. Drivers can choose between two drive modes: full-electric (EV) or hybrid. In EV mode, the car operates solely on electric power, ideal for urban driving. Hybrid mode intelligently manages energy use, maintaining a targeted charge level to optimise efficiency for the journey ahead. For the first time, a digital slider allows users to set their preferred battery charge level manually.
Regenerative braking performance has also seen a notable improvement. In EV mode, drivers can adjust the recuperation level in three stages using steering-wheel paddles. Energy recovery occurs automatically, even without active navigation, using predictive route data when available. The Q5 e-hybrid system has been engineered to maximise comfort and efficiency by automatically adapting its energy strategy to suit the driving context.
Beyond performance and efficiency, the new Q5 plug-in hybrids come generously equipped. Standard features on the 220 kW version include S sport suspension and three-zone climate control. Opting for the 270 kW variant adds advanced LED lighting front and rear. Every model includes Audi’s MMI experience plus infotainment system, complete with Audi Application Store, smartphone interface and premium audio. Sporty styling details come as standard, too, with the S line interior, black leather-effect sports seats, 19-inch aero wheels, and red brake calipers. A sliding and reclining rear bench adds practical versatility for families and longer journeys.
Pricing for the Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro in Ireland begins at €67,955 for the 220 kW version, while the Q5 Sportback starts at €70,765. The more powerful 270 kW variants are priced from €77,955 for the SUV and €80,155 for the Sportback. All models will be built at Audi’s San José Chiapa plant in Mexico and will be available to order in Ireland from mid-June 2025.
