Along with the beautiful the road-going Abarth 124 Spider in Geneva is a rally version engineered to comply with FIA’s R-GT class. Abarth introduced this week in Geneva a beefier version of the Fiat 124 Spider with 170 horsepower coming from a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine. Sitting next to it is a rally version which eschews the 1.4 for a larger turbo 1.8 pushing out up to 300 horsepower at 6,500 rpm. While the road car gets a six-speed manual or an optional sequential transmission, the rally variant has a faster race-spec six-speed sequential and a mechanical limited slip differential.

The rally version’s weight has not been specified, but we can tell you the road-legal model tips the scales at just 1,060 kilograms, so this one should be even lighter. Codenamed “SE139”, the Rally model has a stiffer setup for the front-end double wishbone and multi-link rear suspension. In addition, the model destined for motorsport eschews the regular version’s soft top in favor of a fixed composite hard top.

In order to comply with the R-GT requirements, the Abarth 124 Spider has gone through a series of reinforcements and has gained a safety roll cage. It also comes with four-way adjustable dampers and OZ racing wheels while the interior has been stripped out in order to shave off even more weight. The rear-wheel-drive Abarth 124 Spider Rally will be available for the 2017 racing season and will cost approximately €150,000.
