On the anniversary of the Fiat 500’s original debut, a familiar heartbeat returns to its birthplace in Turin. FIAT has reopened the gates of the historic Mirafiori plant to unveil a new production line dedicated to the hybrid version of its most iconic model. This is where it all began and now, where it begins again. By blending the legacy of the 500 with the innovation of its electric sibling, FIAT is bringing the car back to the people in a more accessible and emotionally resonant form.

This moment marks more than a launch it’s the beginning of a new chapter filled with optimism and vision, true to the spirit of FIAT. Production is set to begin this November, with plans to deliver 5,000 units before the year’s end. Pre-series models have already started rolling off the line, a clear signal that the project is advancing steadily in line with Stellantis’ broader strategic roadmap, presented last December to Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.

The initiative is part of a broader commitment to revitalising Mirafiori. The goal is ambitious: increase production by 100,000 additional units per year. But this isn’t just about numbers. It’s about reaffirming Mirafiori’s vital role—not only industrial, but symbolic and human. The return of the 500 to its roots is more than a business decision; it’s a statement of belief in the Italian industrial system and its capacity to lead through the energy transition with creativity and courage.

“Bringing the 500 Hybrid back to Mirafiori is a promise kept a win driven by a committed team that chose to bet on the customer and the future,” said Olivier François, CEO of FIAT and Global CMO of Stellantis. “This factory is more than just a production site; it’s FIAT’s home, the beating heart of a story that began in 1957 with Dante Giacosa. Today, it stands as a European hub of Stellantis innovation. Our industrial plan for Italy puts Mirafiori and the 500 at the centre of our revival. In November, we’ll celebrate this milestone with a special edition—the ‘500 Torino’—a tribute to the city, its workers, and our heritage. Turin means FIAT, and FIAT means Turin. That’s why the official launch will happen right here, in our city.”

The new Fiat 500 Hybrid is a natural evolution of an icon familiar yet forward-looking. Its timeless style and cross-generational appeal now meet the demands of today’s drivers, embracing modern features and smart technologies while preserving the unmistakable charm that has always made the 500 much more than just a car. From elegant colour palettes to refined materials, every detail has been designed to capture that uniquely Italian sense of lifestyle, flair, and emotional connection. The model will be offered in three configurations: the agile Hatchback, perfect for urban driving; the clever 3+1, with a rear-hinged third door for easier back-seat access; and the distinctive Cabrio the only convertible in its segment for those who love open-air driving.

Beneath its compact silhouette, the new 500 Hybrid is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder FireFly mild-hybrid engine, developed entirely in Italy. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission and supported by a 12V electrical system, this setup delivers a smooth, efficient, and enjoyable drive. It’s a proven powertrain that strikes an ideal balance between performance, fuel economy, and low running costs.

Inside, the 500 Hybrid is as connected as it is charming. It features FIAT’s advanced Uconnect 5 infotainment system, anchored by a customisable 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen, complemented by a 7-inch digital display behind the wheel. Full wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allows seamless smartphone integration keeping drivers connected, entertained, and safe.

A comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems rounds out the urban driving experience, with features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition offering an added layer of confidence in city traffic. Yet this is just the beginning for the new Fiat 500 Hybrid. What lies ahead is a journey of ongoing innovation and surprises, infused with the same passion that has always defined the 500. It’s more than a car it’s a symbol. A statement of how heritage and future, accessibility and technology, Italian identity and global ambition can come together in perfect harmony. The return of the 500 to Mirafiori is a promise kept to the people, to the plant, and to Italy itself.

Delivery dates for the Irish market will be announced later this year.
