SEAT has released images and details of its hot new Seat Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 models. As the names suggest there are two variants, the Leon Cupra which produces 265hp and the Cupra 280 which develops 280hp, both models have 350Nm of torque. Both Cupra’s are equipped with a host of features and technology as standard, this includes DCC (dynamic chassis control), front differential lock, progressive steering, Cupra Drive Profile and full LED headlights.

Both models also come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, a six-speed DSG automatic transmission is also available. The new front-axle differential lock will significantly improve the traction and handling of the Cupra. The maximum locking force is 1,600 Nm and, in extreme cases, 100 per cent of the drive can be sent to one wheel. The ESP system has been programmed to enable sporty driving combined with safety. As well as the standard mode the driver can select from two further modes, the first stage deactivates the traction control and puts the ESP into sport mode, permitting greater yaw angles. The second stage deactivates the ESP completely. When Cupra mode is selected in the drive profile the throttle response sensitivity in increased, while the DSG operates in its sportiest shifting mode and the sound actuator increases the tone of the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine.

The Leon Cupra 280 is differentiated by its unique 19” alloy wheels, an aerodynamic pack that includes a rear spoiler, Cupra lettering on the brake callipers and black exterior mirror housings. The interior is equipped with Alcantara sports seats, a Cupra steering wheel and a 5.8-inch colour touch screen with Media System Plus.  Prices for the new Seat Leon Cupra and Cupra 280 will be announced shortly, prior to the car’s arrival to Ireland.
