Ford has announced two new connected vehicle agreements that will enable vehicle owners to potentially benefit from a wide range of personalised third‑party products and services. Ford believes that the move to share vehicle data using an open platform can drive new business opportunities that offer tailored services including usage-based insurance, predictive maintenance and smart roadside recovery.

The collaboration with connected vehicle data marketplaces CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY will enable third-party service providers to access Ford vehicle data safely and securely. 1 The agreement ensures strict compliance with EU data protection regulations, and Ford owners maintain full control over their data.

“As a leader in connected mobility, Ford has long supported the vision of how vehicle data can drive new products and services for its customers,” said Mark Harvey, director, Enterprise Connectivity, Ford of Europe. “These partnerships further demonstrate our commitment to sharing vehicle-generated data in a fair and secure manner so that vehicle owners and businesses can fully benefit from the opportunities that connectivity enables.”

CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY will each act as a “neutral server” – an online data platform that is entirely independent from Ford and enables third-party service providers secure and compliant access to vehicle-generated data. This access will in turn enable third‑party providers to create value-added, individually tailored services to owners of Ford vehicles.

These services may include predictive maintenance, roadside assistance and usage-based insurance – each benefiting owners by sharing vehicle data such as warning codes or GPS location. Owners must opt in before any of their vehicle data is shared; they remain in control of whom their vehicle data is shared with and for which purposes, and can opt out of sharing at any time.

Ford recently announced that all new vehicle models sold in Europe will be fitted with FordPass Connect as standard and has made a wide range of connected vehicle services complimentary to its European customers. These free services enable drivers to control and monitor key features in their vehicles via the FordPass app and give them the ability to share data with third parties via the CARUSO and HIGH MOBILITY “neutral servers”.
