BMW has announced pricing for its all-new i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, with prices commencing from €136,430 OTR. The BMW i8 uses a three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is combined with an electric motor to produce 362hp and 570Nm of torque. This results in a 0-100km/h time of 4.4 seconds. The car’s aerodynamic looks result in a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.26. Thelow-slung bonnet, partially closed kidney grille, Aero Curtains in the front spoiler, sealed under body, contoured side skirts, and the air ducts between the rear lights and roof frame allow the air to be channelled extremely effectively as it hits the car. The i8 boasts an impressive combined fuel consumption of 113mpg and emits just 59g/km of CO2.
Drivers can choose from one of five driving modes, comfort, eco, eco pro, sport and eDrive all-electric driving. The i8 comes with full-LED headlights as standard, inside there’s a fully digital instrument display which shows the car’s speed and driving status information. Standard equipment includes satellite navigation and head-up Display among many other features. In Ireland, Joe Duffy Motors has been appointed as the sole i agent, they will be able to handle all the servicing needs of the i8. The BMW i8 will be launched in Ireland in July 2014.
