Audi’s well received new A6 has benefited from the recent edition of the Avant model to the range. The new A6 Avant is now on sale, with the first customer deliveries expected to commence in early October.

The new A6 sets itself apart from its predecessor in terms of weight saving innovation and the introduction of new high-end technologies. Thanks to the use of high strength aluminium components, the gross weight has been reduced by as much as 70 kilograms, depending on engine, compared with the previous model. Customers can specify the optional Mobile Telephone Preparation High and MMI Navigation Plus, which relays online news and weather information supplied by Google to the car. Google Earth images will also be displayed for navigation purposes.

There will be three diesel and two petrol variants available from launch, with prices commencing at €46,450. The 2.0 TDI 177hp engine will account for approximately four out of every five cars ordered. Later in 2011 Audi will introduce an all-new 3.0 TDI that uses twin-turbo technology to produce a spirited 313hp.

Two trim levels are on offer, SE and S Line, each includes alloys, leather upholstery, cruise control, parking sensors, Bluetooth, light and rain sensors. I look forward to test driving the car shortly.
