Porsche has commenced road testing of its stunning new 918 Spyder. This is the latest stage in the development of the plug-in hybrid super car, that’s due to go into production in September 2013. The 918 Spyder promises brutal power and performance with in excess of 770hp available and yet Porsche say it can achieve an incredible 3.0l/100km combined fuel consumption. Commenting on the new car Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Executive Board Research and Development of Porsche AG, said “What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance”. Powering the 918 is a combination of a petrol engine and two independent electric motors, one of the front axle and one in the drive line for the rear wheels. It has a full carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque with unit carrier, fully adaptive aerodynamics and adaptive rear axle steering. Its exhausts exit the car in an upward direction from the engine. We’ll keep you posted on the further development progress of the Porsche 918.
