The new Mercedes-Benz B-Class is now available in Ireland priced from €29,330 for the entry level B180 CDI. This model is equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine producing 109hp, and falls into tax band A, with an annual road tax fee of €160. There’s also a 136hp 2.0l diesel on offer for those that require more power. The petrol line-up consists of a 122hp B180 which is on sale from €29,890 and a 2.0l 156hp which will be added to the range later this year.

The B-Class is the first of three new models to be launched in Ireland this year, with the new M-Class and SL to follow in March and April. The B-Class has been redesigned to include a reduced height and lower centre of gravity, improved interior space and a high level of safety and comfort.

Customers can choose from a new six-speed manual transmission and a 7G dual clutch transmission system. I had a brief test drive in the later, which provides for stress-free driving around town with seamless gear changes that add to the driving experience. There’s a host of safety features onboard with adaptive headlamp, blind spot, lane keeping, speed limit and parking assist, hill hold braking and a reversing camera all available.
