McLaren after the recent launch of the 570S has unveiled the cheapest car it has ever produced the McLaren 540C Coupé. It will be on display for the first time at the Shanghai Motor Show from the 20th to 29th of April. It is estimated to cost around €175k plus taxes and can can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 3.5sec and from 0 to 124mph in 10.5sec. Flat out it will do 199mph which is just shy of its stablemates. The more powerful McLaren 570S goes from 0 to 62mph in 3.2sec and has a top speed of 204mph. The gull-winged 540C is a car that McLaren aim to rival the Audi R8, Porsche 911 and the Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS. McLaren states that the 540C is 150kg lighter than the Porsche 911 and it is also longer, lower and wider than the Porsche.

Inside the cabin, the 540C Coupé is as you would expect extremely luxurious with leather seats, dashboard and lower doors as standard. The ‘floating’ centre console has a seven-inch IRIS touchscreen which controls of the infotainment system. The air conditioning controls are also incorporated, as first seen on the McLaren P1, minimising switchgear in the cabin. The touchscreen also controls the standard DAB digital radio, as well as satellite navigation, Bluetooth telephony and media streaming, voice activation and the audio media player. The IRIS system also includes the electronic owner’s manual like other McLaren’s. The 540C Coupé is the second model to join the Sports Series, and sits alongside the 570S Coupé. Both models are available to order from the dedicated global McLaren retail network, operating over 30 countries. Global deliveries are due to begin early next year.
