Billed as a ‘race car for the road’, the all-new Honda Civic Type R is powered by the most extreme and high-performing Type R engine ever built, and has already set new standards in the high-performance front-wheel drive hatchback segment. For the first time Honda’s new 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO engine will be fitted along with, a menacing sound, aggressive body-styling, and pioneering new chassis technologies that will deliver one of the most immersive and rewarding driving experiences available in any car!

The Civic Type R like its predecessor will be equally at home on the road as it is on the track. This car is the start of a new performance era for Honda, drawing on the brand’s racing DNA to deliver the best of the Civic line-up. The powerplant pf the new Civic Type R is an all-new, direct-injected turbocharged 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine, which delivers power, torque and performance figures unmatched in the front-wheel drive hot hatch segment. Peak power output is 310 hp at 6,500 rpm, and peak torque is 400 Nm between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm – both higher than for any previous Honda Type R model. Typically performance Honda’s are high revving and red-lining at 7,000 rpm, this engine sings as the advanced new turbocharging system works in harmony with Honda’s legendary Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) and Dual-Variable Timing Control (VTC) technologies.

This engine setup boosts low-end response while delivering strong acceleration. The new Civic Type R’s blistering performance is super with the 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint coming up in just 5.7 seconds and top speed, where permitted, is a class-leading 270 km/h (167 mph). Despite its astonishing performance, the Civic Type R achieves low CO2 emissions of just 170 g/km, exceptional high speed fuel consumption and compliance with Euro 6b emissions regulations. As part of a rigorous and detailed development and testing programme, a pre-production development Civic Type R achieved a 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time of the legendary 20.8 km/12.9 mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. This time is now the benchmark for front-wheel drive performance hatchbacks. Orders are now being taken for this rather unique hot hatch!
